Not uncommonly, a patient with this disorder will present with pain. This may be due to either an acute diffuse otitis externa or a localized otitis externa with granulation tissue which has arisen from a foreign body reaction of to the keratin squames. In this section, the deep canal is filled with a plug of uninfected keratin squames arranged in the characteristic lamellar pattern. H&E 6 x |
