Histopathology of External Auditory Canal Cholesteatoma

Description : In this horizontal section of a left temporal bone there is a small cholesteatoma sac eroding into the posterior bony external auditory canal wall.

The tympanic membrane is intact and normal.

The subepithelial inflammation and hyperemia are confined to the area immediately adjacent to the sac.

The deep meatus is filled with loosely packed keratin debris
