Keratin and Bony Horn

Keratin and Bony Horn

Description : After the thick covering of adherent keratin debris has been removed (right), the base of the horn can be seen as a sharply pointed exostosis arising from the region of the tympanomastoid suture line. The unusual shape of this exostosis has interfered with the normal outward pattern of epithelial migration, causing the accumulation of a cap of keratin over the tip of the horn.
